Judges
Alan Kelly - Chairman of the judging panel
Alan has over 25 year's experience in the recruitment advertising industry . He launched Barkers in Scotland many moons ago and grew the business into the market leader , won a collection of awards , including Agency of the Year in this very competiton , and was laterally one of the most profitable parts of the Barkers Group . He stepped down as M.D. in 2004 and moved upstairs to become Chairman for the next 2 years.
Taking a well earned rest for the next 18 months , Alan was tempted back into the industry by his old friend , Andrew Young at THIRTYTHREE and has helped launch the business in Scotland .
Lorraine Hosie - Blackad Ltd
Lorraine believes a good judge’s profile should be like good ad copy: informed, honest, and only as long as it really needs to be. She began her copywriting career at Barkers London in 1999 and, following stints at ThirtyThree and WorkComms, relocated to the Midlands in 2005 to become the Creative Head at Barkers Nottingham.
When that went pear-shaped, Lorraine landed a position at McCann Erickson in Birmingham, where she spent a happy but cold and rainy year before deciding to head for the sunnier shores of Western Australia. Two years and a suntan later, Lorraine returned to her native Scotland in March 2011 and now has a lovely new home at Blackad Ltd in Glasgow.
Mark Irvine - NHS
Mark began his career as a recruitment consultant (don't hold it against him) before moving to Barkers Scotland where he worked as a suit for ten years managing a range of high profile private and public sector recruitment campaigns.
A key area of interest for Mark has always been how creative output impacts on return on investment. A member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, he now works for the NHS in business management, while keeping an eye on the changing face of recruitment communications.
Justin Ballantine, Thirty Three
Bristol. 1998. Justin enters the recruitment communications fray as a Trainee Copywriter with Barkers. After much expert tutelage, a media do or two, and a generous sprinkling of great creative work, he goes on to become the agency’s Creative Director.
That was 2005. In 2008, Justin’s tempted by the offer of joining ThirtyThree Bristol’s agency as a writer. Justin joins ThirtyThree as a writer. Two and a bit years later, and Justin’s proud to be the agency’s Head of Creative.
Jim Rennie, Eglinton
Jim leads Eglinton Selection in providing consultancy services including recruitment, assessment and search services to private, public and not for profit clients. He has been a Director of Eglinton since the Management Buy Out in 1999. Prior to this Jim was the HR Director for a major Local Authority and a UK PLC. He has also served as a NHS Board member and professional adviser to a university HR academic programme. He has an MBA and is a Fellow of the CIPD.
With (well) over 30 years experience in recruitment gained in different roles and with the perspectives gained as a consultant, along with 20 years as a Director he is still impressed by the value generated by creative advertising.
Moyra Reid, Feather Brooksbank
Moyra has been in the advertising industry for the majority of her working life, (too long to mention!) in press, with the Herald and Evening Times, as well as News International, and more recently on the recruitment advertising agency side, covering sales and client services. She’s been working in Recruitment Advertising and Marketing for 18 years.
She was the creator of the Scottish Recruitment Advertising Awards in 2001, the first of its kind in Scotland, whilst working at The Herald, organising the judges, the categories, the call for entries and even the big party afterwards! She has first-hand knowledge of what to look for in an award winner!
Ian McLeod, Odgers Berndtson (Business Judge)
Ian MacLeod established Odgers Berndtson’s Scottish business in July 2000 . He has recruited in most of the principal business sectors in Scotland with particular experience at board level in the sport, utilities, financial services and public sector arenas. He began his career in the Civil Service with the Department of Employment where he spent 10 years, eventually running Professional and Executive Recruitment (PER) in Scotland, the Government’s executive recruitment agency.
