Charles is a recruitment industry veteran of approaching 30 years, entering the industry in the late 80’s as a recruiter for the construction industry with high street recruiter HMS Personnel Services, he held a number of regional and national roles before leaving in 1998 to join leading Scottish group Melville Craig. Through several phases of ownership he has remained there ever since.

In 2006 along with his business partner he conducted an MBO of the industrial business unit from multinational Hudson relaunching the business as Brightwork.  At launch the business turned over £5.5 million employing 13 staff. Under his leadership the business has grown into Scotland’s largest independent blue collar recruiter turning over in excess of £35 million and employing 80 staff and supplying in excess of 2000 temporary workers per week. In addition the business has added numerous new products and services, expanding well beyond the core blue collar market.

In May of this year he and his fellow shareholders agreed to sell their shareholding to the UK’s largest industrial recruiter Staffline Plc and the business is now part of a £1 billion turnover company.

Currently enjoying a short career break he is now in the planning stages for his next business ventures and is looking for investment opportunities.

In his spare time he is an enthusiastic supporter and fund raiser for Maggie’s cancer centres
